Foot Traffic

Creativity Week 2009 aims to encourage a broad spectrum of New Zealanders to be more creative. Creativity Week is to take place in the first week of June each year and will take place in New Zealand’s four major cities: Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Creativity Week will be made up of various events that involve members of the public and will produce visual communication design which is souvenir-like, interactive and free. Creativity Week’s design will be in print, offering the public relief from the ever increasing use of the digitized screen.

‘Foot Traffic’ is the main event for Auckland’s Creativity Week 2009. It is an installation of Polaroid pictures taken of shoes on the feet of Auckland City’s public, which will be displayed in Aotea Square for the whole of Creativity Week. ‘Foot Traffic’ is a tribute to the dying art form of Polaroid instant photography and gives the public an opportunity to be included, each Polaroid will represent how the person it was taken of expresses themselves through their footwear. The nostalgia of Polaroid has inspired the Nana aesthetic seen in Foot Traffic’s Design material.
